How to Compress Video for Email Without Uploading It
Email has a file size limit. Gmail caps attachments at 25 MB. Outlook at 20 MB. If you have a 150 MB interview clip you need to send to a client, what do you do?
The common answer is to upload it to WeTransfer, Google Drive, or Dropbox and share a link. But if the video is sensitive — a legal deposition, a patient consultation, an HR interview — that's not always an option.
The no-upload approach
TrimPrivate compresses video entirely in your browser using FFmpeg.wasm. No upload, no account, no cloud. Here's the process:
- Drag your video into TrimPrivate
- If you only need part of it, set trim points on the timeline
- Choose "Smaller file (lower quality)" in the quality selector
- Click Export — FFmpeg runs in your browser
- Download the compressed file and attach it to your email
H.264 at CRF 28 typically reduces file size by 50-70% with acceptable quality for most use cases.
